EOP’s Powerline Technicians (PLTs) are responsible for the construction and maintenance of power lines throughout our service area.

This registered apprenticeship program involves successful completion of Levels 1-4 of in-school training as well as proven on-the-job competency and required hours worked in the trade to be a certified Powerline Technician.  

With experience and training, PLT’s within our company can progress to become Line Lead Hands, Line Forepersons, Supervisors, and much, much, more! The knowledge and skills acquired within this department are beneficial to many other teams and departments throughout our organization!

Requirements

Participants in the Power Line Technician Apprenticeship Program must have and meet the following:

• College graduate of a Powerline Technician program
• Comply with residency requirements to remain within twenty (20) minutes driving time of the Gananoque service center to better respond to emergencies and on-call duties
• Valid Ontario AZ driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions
• General knowledge of line materials, trade related practices/standards and operating rules and regulations is an asset
• Good communication (verbal and written) skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, customers, and industry partners
• Must work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor and peers
• Ability to think critically and analytically with strong problem solving and decision-making skills
• Unrelenting commitment and passion to safety, ethics, and continuous improvement
• Be subject to a criminal, financial, and educational background check

EOP’s Meter Technicians are responsible for performing inspections, record keeping, and installations of all types of revenue meters and associated equipment. They work with electrical trades, develop and maintain metering standards, prepare designs and instructions for new metering installations maintain and program new electronic metering hardware and software, troubleshoot meter modem/communications equipment and telephone lines, and aid in meter changes and Customer Service assignments as required.

This apprenticeship program involves successful completion of Levels 1-3 of in-school training as well as proven on-the-job competency and required hours worked in the trade to be a certified Meter Technician.  

With experience and training, Meter Technicians within our company can progress to become Lead Hands, Supervisors, and much, much more! The knowledge and skills acquired within this department are beneficial to many other teams and departments throughout our organization.

Requirements

Participants in the Meter Technician Apprenticeship Program must have and meet the following:

• Graduate of a two (2) year community college electrical technician course or equivalent
• Valid Ontario G driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions
• Excellent computer skills with practical knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Good communication (verbal and written) skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, customers, and industry partners
• Must work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor and peers
• Ability to think critically and analytically with strong problem solving and decision-making skills
• Unrelenting commitment and passion to safety, ethics, and continuous improvement
• Be subject to a criminal, financial, and educational background check
